Berlin Airlift plane crash memorial

To mark the 75th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift, new information boards were unveiled in Königstein im Taunus on Saturday 14th October close to the site of the first fatal plane crash in 1948 in which two US airmen and an American civilian lost their lives. The accident occurred just twelve days into the Berlin Airlift – a coordinated effort by the Allies to supply food, fuel, and machinery to citizens of Berlin during the Soviet blockade. Ralf attended the international gathering and emotional ceremony accompanied by his model of the Berlin Airlift Memorial, which is situated near the former Rhein-Main Air Base at Frankfurt Airport.
