Description

The first commercially successful German locomotive, the Adler (Eagle), has a migration background. After all, it was constructed in England before it found its way onto German rails in 1835.

Initially, the rustic steam locomotive was used exclusively for transporting passengers; later, it also proved itself in the transport of heavier goods. Just over 20 years later, in 1857, the striking loco and its sister, by the name of Pfeil (Arrow), were taken out of service. Railway technology had developed so rapidly that the two were already considered hopelessly outdated after such a short time.
