Once upon a time, there were five sisters: Katharina, Pauline, Hermine, Johanna and Adolphine. And if you’re a little familiar with the history of the railway, you already have a knowing grin on your face. Yes, they are electric locomotives from the Lokalbahn Aktiengesellschaft (Local Railway Public Limited Company) in Munich, LAG for short.
Adolphine, also called E 69 05, came into the world in 1930 and is the youngest and most powerful electric loco of the bunch. For decades, she pulled heavy goods trains day in and day out until she was retired in 1981. As if! Nowadays, her home is the Bayerische Localbahnverein (Bavarian Local Railway Society), which converted her for operation on DB rails. She says thank you with sheer resilience.
