Description

The robin, a congenial, plump passerine, is common in Europe, Africa and Asia Minor. A very rare subspecies is the red-capped robin-chat (or Natal robin), which can only be found in Africa.

The little mastersinger’s back and wings are greyish blue, the rest bright orange. His melodic vocals are extremely versatile; he masters a wide range of sound motifs. The red-capped robin-chat warbles from early morning – even before sunrise – until late evening, preferably from a safe height. His specialties are alarm and warning calls and imitating other birds.
