Description

The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was powered by two twelve-cylinder Allison V-1710 engines. These were liquid-cooled, had a turbocharger and a respective take-off power of 1150 hp (858 kW).

After some teething problems, this type of engine developed in the course of World War II into a robust and reliable model that was highly sought-after. In addition to the P-38, it was also installed in the North American A-36, the P-51 and the F-82 among others.
