Description

Even the gangster couple Bonnie and Clyde appreciated the merits of the sporty version of the Ford V8. The car built from 1932 was quick and reliable – a big advantage when you’re being chased by the police. Clyde Barrow is said to have even written a thank you note to Henry Ford before they finally caught him and his lover in 1934. The car was not to blame; it too was riddled with officers’ bullets. Bonnie and Clyde had been lured into an ambush.

But even ordinary citizens could do more than just dream of the eight-cylinder V engine. Ford Motor Company set their sights on the mass market with their new model and broke into normal price segments. A coupé could be had for just $490 in cash. This sum is roughly equivalent to $8,432 adjusted to the current inflation rate. Almost 200,000 copies of various versions of the V8 rolled off the assembly line between 1932 and 1940. Single specimens are well-preserved and even – for very different prices, naturally – available.
