Description
Long horns curved towards the back are the most striking characteristic of both sexes of roan antelope. These beautiful animals are relatively large and strong, with a shoulder height of up to 1.4 metres and a weight of up to 270 kilograms, yet they possess the elegance and grace typical of antelopes.
In general, only the males use their horns as a weapon during territorial fights. The females perform other tasks; the alpha female searches for new grazing grounds in the vast savannahs of Africa. If possible, she avoids open fields with low grass. Trees and bushes offer much better protection to the herd of between 12 to 15 individuals.
